SpeakUp Forum is a countywide forum for Voluntary and Community Sector organisations. SpeakUp is the structure for ensuring that the voluntary and community sector (VCS) in East Sussex is supported in representation, liaison and communication across the county with the Statutory Sector. We complement Local Community Networks like Eastbourne

Community Network (ECN) providing representation for the sector at the county level.

The key aims of SpeakUp are:

  • Representation
  • Liaison with statutory partners
  • Information sharing
  • Developing of a thriving VCS

SpeakUp representatives include all Local Community Networks and CVSs who bring the voice of the local groups and a diverse range of countywide organisations representing communities within all strands of work (e.g. organisations working with Older People, organisations working with Disabled People).

SpeakUp Forum supports groups to:

  • Be heard at the county level (we appointed accountable representatives to over 15 countywide partnerships)
  • Be represented at key decision making and strategic meetings (we have helped VCS work jointly with ESCC on the new funding model for Adult Social Care and Health service)
  • Have a stronger dialogue with ESCC and resolve issues
  • Access information about countywide issues and network across the district boundaries (strong on-line and newsletter presence and 2 large conferences each year)
