3VA provides a range of practical support to charities and community groups in Wealden, Eastbourne and the Lewes District - including start-up support, funding advice, help with governance, training and getting involved in local policy and decision making. For more information, please visit www.3va.org.uk.
In Kind Direct, one of the Prince’s Charities, is set up to support charities, community groups and not for profit organisations with donated goods. Goods range from cleaning products, toiletries, clothes, toys and a range of other items that can be used to give to the people they support, clean and maintain their facilities or fill goody bags for events. Although not a traditional funder, Inkind Direct helps charities to save money on everyday essential items. Charities can then use the money they’ve saved to
strengthen and expand their services. How does it work? Charities pay a small charge for the service, which helps contribute towards the costs of running a warehouse, staff, packaging and delivery. There’s no extra charge for delivery and registration is free!
Charities Must Do More to Promote Diversity on Their Boards, New Research Shows
New research recommends that charities do more to promote diversity on their boards and encourage applications from women, young people and people from ethnic minority and socially diverse backgrounds. The report was commissioned by the Office for Civil Society and the Charity Commission and delivered by a consortium led by Cass Business School and the Cranfield Trust.
Let's Get You Home
High Weald Lewes Havens Clinical Commissioning Group is organising a big initiative called Let’s Get You Home to ensure that patients spend no longer than they need to in hospital. This means supporting them to return home safely or, if this is not possible, to move to a care home or supported housing once their treatment in hospital is complete. For more information for staff and patients, please see the attached leaflets.
Art Café – Compass Community Arts and Ecohub
Compass Community Arts and Ecohub are looking forward to starting a new Art Café at Ecohub this Thursday, 23 November! Artist Fenya Sharkey (Compass Community Arts) is experienced in making across all mediums and is very versatile in her approach to accompanying individuals and groups in developing their own interests and style to build on an art practice. Fenya’s specialisation is social sculpture in which she facilitates projects, from scratch, to represent the skills and life experiences of the communities in
which the projects are situated. This is a community building exercise starting with approximately 6-8 participants that will meet on from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Thursdays over the next few weeks and months to be part of what Fenya describes as an "action" that brings about a "yet to be imagined event". If you would like to join and participate, please contact Fenya at firstname.lastname@example.org or Ben at email@example.com or on 07984 988 057.
