Safeguarding is a Key Governance Priority for All Charities, Regulator Reminds Trustees
The Charity Commission says safeguarding should be a priority for all charities, not just those working with groups traditionally considered at risk. It comes as the charity regulator publishes a report, Tackling Abuse and Mismanagement, showing safeguarding concerns are an increasing feature in its regulatory compliance case work with charities. The Commission recently updated its strategy on safeguarding in charities, which reminded trustees that they should proactively safeguard and promote the welfare of their charity’s beneficiaries and take reasonable steps to ensure that their beneficiaries or others who come into contact with their charity do not, as a result, come to harm.
CQC Report of Local System Review in East Sussex Published
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is reviewing health and social care systems in 20 local areas to find out how services are working together to care for people aged 65 and older. The report of the local system review in East Sussex has now been published. Each local area review will highlight what is working well and where there are opportunities for
improving how the system works for people using services. The CQC will report to the local authority area’s health and wellbeing board and publish its findings. Once the CQC has completed all the reviews, it will publish a national report sometime in 2018.

Southdown Staying Well Service
Southdown is currently looking for volunteers to help deliver a brand new service in St. Leonards for people from across East Sussex experiencing emotional distress. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of developing and delivering a new service for people experiencing mental health difficulties outside of normal service operating times. The service will offer dedicated support to individuals 7 days a week (excl. bank holidays) between the hours of 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm Monday to Friday and 3:00 pm and 11:00 Saturday and Sunday. The service will offer brief
interventions designed to help people deescalate their distress in the short term and link in with appropriate services to better manage their mental health in the longer term. If you’re passionate about supporting others to overcome their difficulties and would like to be involved in an innovative and valuable front line service, Southdown would love to hear from you. To find out more and to express an interest, please contact Ian Dyer, Operations Manager, on 07384 460 994 or at email@example.com.
