One Day Introduction to Management

with McCrudden Training

This one-day workshop explores the essential elements of being an effective manager/leader. It provides the opportunity to consider the leadership responsibilities and skills associated with the role, introduces the continuum of leadership styles and explores the skills necessary to work within and lead a team.

The practical exercises provide a safe environment to practice different approaches and rehearse the skills needed to deal effectively with staff, volunteers and customers.

At the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • describe the roles and responsibilities of a manager and the difference between management and leadership;
  • outline the qualities of styles of leadership for a manager appropriate in a variety of situations;
  • describe the stages of team development, identify the status of their team and the implications for them as a manager;
  • use effective communication skills to give and receive emotionally intelligent feedback within teams;
  • apply basic strategies to deal with unhelpful behaviour;
  • identify the pros and cons of delegating tasks as a manager and delegate tasks using a seven step approach; and
  • evaluate their own strengths and areas for development as a manager.

This course is suitable for new managers, those aspiring to management roles, or existing managers wanting to build their confidence or refresh their skills.
