Youth Worker

Brief description: 
Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) runs a range of projects, services and activities aimed at supporting the involvement of the whole of the community. One of these is Youth Community Development, which provides a wide range of opportunities for young people through drop in sessions, youth & wellbeing clubs. We have recently commenced building work on our highly anticipated Newhaven Youth Centre which is due to open in 2020. This will provide a dedicated space for young people and will be used to deliver a wide range of activities including music, art, mental health and wellbeing support. We are currently recruiting for a Qualified Youth Worker, or someone who is working towards to their professional qualification, to become an integral part of our talented Youth team delivering of a range of generic activities and targeted services for young people. This role will lead on running three youth clubs, weekly wellbeing groups and a drop-in advice and guidance service. The hours of work are generally Mondays 3:45pm - 7:15pm, Tuesdays 2:15pm to 5:45pm, Wednesdays 3:45pm to 8:15pm and Fridays 6:45pm – 8:45pm. The session times can vary so flexibility is required. The position is varied and involves a practical, hands-on yet boundaried approach. Strong knowledge and experience of providing person-centred information, advice and guidance to young people aged 8-18 is required, as well as a good understanding of youth mental health and wellbeing. Based in Newhaven and delivering in multiple venues in the Havens area, the post is subject to a DBS check at an enhanced level. A full driving licence is desirable.
