Chances4Change Seedcorn Grant winners announced

On 18 September, Eastbourne Community Network presented the Langney and Shinewater Ideas Fair. This was a joint event organised by Eastbourne Community Network, 3VA and the Chances4Change (C4C) project.

Local residents, community leaders, groups and businesses were invited to the event to share and discuss their good ideas for a community project in Langney and Shinewater. Those who added their ideas to the ideas bank had a chance to win a support package to help their idea become a reality. This package included funding and expert support from 3VA.

After careful consideration, three ideas have now been chosen by the panel from the Langney and Shinewater Ideas Bank and the following have been awarded a C4C Seedcorn Grant:

Langney and Shinewater Boccia Club

This will be the first Boccia club  a Paralympic sport) in Eastbourne. This inclusive sport is open to all and will be well placed at Shinewater Sports Centre to be accessed by people from the local community including Shinewater Court and local care homes and day centres.  Langney and Shinewater have a higher than average numbers of people with a disability. The Boccia Club will be delivered by Defiant Sports who have two trained coaches to lead the sessions.

Shinewater Youth Club Dance Project

An idea suggested by the Shinewater Youth group who meet at Shinewater Hub. Dance workshops will be taught with the aim of  developing a young people’s performance group, building confidence and developing dance leaders. The group will perform at local events and beyond. Following this start up phase, additional funding will be sought to ensure this is an ongoing activity. YMCA will facilitate this project with the Shinewater Youth Hub.

Band Night and music workshops for young people at Langney Village Hall

This project will link in with local schools, youth clubs and groups to hold music workshops, and expert teaching sessions working towards a band night and musical showcase. Peer support and learning is a key element along with partnership working to share equipment and instruments. It is hoped that young leaders will emerge within the local community.  YMCA will facilitate this project.

Congratulations to the selected projects!
