The newly appointed Big Lottery Fund Funding and relationship manager, Jason Martin, held a workshop at 3VA offices and met with local groups to discuss applications for Reaching Communities Fund. This event was very popular, so for those that missed out here is a summary of the key points:
Awards for All is currently being “refreshed”. Groups can now can apply for 20,000 over two years or 10,000 per year. This award can be used as a pilot project to demonstrate need for the larger funds.
Reaching Communities 20K to 500K
Want to diversify this fund and are looking at making awards of 50-60K to individual organisations particularly the “pinched middle”.
Stage 1 - conversation with Jason – filter applications straight away
Stage 2- Video or 2/3-page proposal - Jason gives feedback
Stage 3- Formal application assessed nationally
They want to see:
- Putting People in the lead – active involvement of beneficiaries in all aspects of project, regular consultation, active participation from the start
- Evidence from lots of people’s voices, partner agencies who refer to your organisations, pilots or examples from elsewhere, case studies, testimonials and specific local data.
There is an additional fund available if the bid for Reaching Communities is successful. Strengthening capabilities 15K in addition to e.g. improve database, website independent evaluation etc. Condition is you must have an organisation do an independent “healthcheck” on you, to check for Governance compliance and sustainability. 3VA and others can provide this service.
Jason is available to talk about the Reaching Communities Fund but not Awards for All. It is essential that groups visit the website first to check eligibility and to make sure they are applying to the correct fund. In the past groups, have put in a lot of effort filling out complex forms when they do not meet the criteria or when the fund does not cover the activity.
